Diana Ingalls Leyba

Silver City

2024 Recipient, Major Contributor to the Arts

Born in Georgetown Guyana and raised in Philadelphia PA, Ingalls Leyba relocated to Silver City, NM in 1996 where she opened Leyba & Ingalls Arts Supplies & Gallery, providing an artistic hub for the community with art materials, fine art, framing, and ongoing workshops and classes by local artists/teachers as well nationally renowned artists. When the art supply store closed in 2019 after 23 years in business, Ingalls Leyba opened Diana Ingalls Leyba Studio & Gallery. In addition to the gallery, it hosts art classes and cultural events and is home to local and regional printmakers, painters, clay and sculpture artists. In 2002, Ingalls Leyba conceived of the Youth Mural Program for the Mimbres Region Arts Council with the goal of working with at-risk youth to produce murals that teach students about the history and culture of their community through the arts, connect students to their peers, local artists and community members, show students that pubic art can enrich and enhance the quality of life, and encourage students to engage in beautifying their community. The Youth Mural Program was officially launched in 2003 with Ingalls Leyba as the program’s director. In 2020 the Youth Mural Program became an independent entity with Ingalls Leyba still serving as director. Ingalls Leyba is an accomplished muralist in her own right and continues to share her love of murals with the Silver City community.
